Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to join our dynamic obstetric team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of both mother and newborn. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in maternal health, neonatal resuscitation procedures, and critical care practices. Your expertise will support positive birth experiences while adhering to the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.
Duties
- Monitor maternal vital signs, fetal heart rates, and progress during labor using advanced electronic fetal monitoring systems.
- Administer medications and interventions in accordance with physician orders, including pain management and labor augmentation.
- Assist with labor induction procedures, including the use of sterile techniques and catheterization when necessary.
- Perform neonatal resuscitation procedures following neonatal resuscitation protocols to ensure newborn stability immediately after birth.
- Educate patients and their families about labor processes, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans aligned with patient needs.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients throughout labor and delivery.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, pain management, and clinical outcomes.
Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Prior experience working in labor and delivery units within a hospital setting is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Experience managing acute pain through medication administration and non-pharmacologic methods.
- Knowledge of obstetric protocols, fetal monitoring techniques, and neonatal assessment procedures.
- Familiarity with infection control standards and aseptic techniques specific to obstetric care environments.
- Strong communication skills to effectively educate patients and collaborate with healthcare teams.
- Ability to handle high-stress situations calmly while maintaining attention to detail.
