Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Radiation Therapist specializing in Radiology Oncology to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The Radiation Therapist will be responsible for delivering precise radiation treatments to patients with cancer and other conditions, ensuring adherence to established safety protocols and treatment plans. This role requires a thorough understanding of radiation physics, medical imaging, and patient care, contributing significantly to patient outcomes and comfort. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, critical thinking skills, and a compassionate approach to patient interaction.
Duties
- Prepare and position patients accurately for radiation therapy procedures, utilizing advanced imaging techniques such as CT simulation and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT).
- Operate and maintain complex medical equipment including linear accelerators, CT scanners, and other radiotherapy devices to deliver external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists and medical physicists to develop and implement individualized radiation treatment plans, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
- Monitor patients throughout treatment sessions, assessing for adverse reactions or complications, especially in critical or acute care settings.
- Ensure strict compliance with radiation safety procedures, implementing protocols to protect patients, staff, and the environment from unnecessary exposure.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) efficiently, documenting treatment details, patient responses, and any procedural deviations accurately.
- Educate patients about their treatment process, addressing concerns related to radiation therapy, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Stay current with advancements in medical imaging, radiation physics, and oncology practices through ongoing professional development.
Requirements
- Certification or licensure as a Radiation Therapist from an accredited program; additional specialization in radiology oncology preferred.
- Proven experience operating medical imaging equipment such as CT scanners and linear accelerators.
- Comprehensive knowledge of radiation physics, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to oncology treatments.
- Familiarity with advanced radiotherapy techniques including IGRT, IMRT, external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), and CT simulation.
- Experience working with electronic health records (EHR) management systems in a clinical setting.
- Strong understanding of radiation safety procedures and implementing protocols to ensure safe practice standards.
- Critical care experience or background in acute care environments is highly desirable.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients and coordinate with healthcare professionals.
