Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Application Engineer to lead the development, integration, and optimization of electrical systems within complex power and utility projects. This pivotal role involves providing technical expertise in high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving innovative engineering solutions. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in power distribution engineering, system design, and project management within the energy or utility sectors. Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards such as IEEE, NEC, NFPA 70, and NESC.
- Oversee project scheduling, resource allocation, and technical execution to meet project milestones efficiently.
- Develop detailed system schematics and electrical schematics using CAD software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
- Conduct power systems analysis including protection coordination, system stability, and fault analysis to optimize performance.
- Implement engineering troubleshooting procedures for complex electrical issues across AC/DC systems and power electronics circuits.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on system design integration, including GIS mapping, construction planning, and systems engineering.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and electrical building codes while maintaining high standards of quality assurance.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and coordinate with public utility entities on utility electrical systems projects.
- Support energy sector engineering initiatives by applying knowledge of power distribution, high voltage systems, and energy efficiency practices.
- Lead efforts in IEEE standards implementation for system reliability and safety enhancements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; advanced degrees or professional certifications are preferred.
- Extensive experience in power system design, protection schemes, and power systems analysis within utility or energy sectors.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation for creating detailed schematics.
- Strong knowledge of project scheduling tools and project management principles.
- Demonstrated expertise in high-voltage electrical systems, power electronics circuit design, and energy sector engineering practices.
- Familiarity with industry standards including IEEE standards, NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70 compliance, and NESC regulations.
- Experience with GIS applications related to utility infrastructure planning.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues across diverse systems efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Prior experience working on public utility projects or within the energy sector is highly desirable.
