Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated NICU Clinical Pharmacist Specialist to join our healthcare team, providing expert pharmaceutical care within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This specialized role involves delivering comprehensive medication management, ensuring pharmaceutical regulatory compliance, and optimizing patient outcomes for our most vulnerable neonatal populations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical pharmacy experience, including critical care and neonatal pharmacology, and demonstrate a commitment to advancing patient safety and quality care in a dynamic hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized medication plans for NICU patients
- Monitor and adjust pharmacotherapy regimens based on patient response, physiology, and laboratory data
- Ensure adherence to pharmaceutical regulatory standards and hospital policies
- Provide expert consultation on drug dosing, IV infusion preparation, and aseptic technique tailored to neonatal physiology
- Educate healthcare staff on pharmacology, medication administration, and pain management specific to neonates
- Oversee medication reconciliation processes and patient assessments to optimize safety
- Precept pharmacy residents, students, and new staff in clinical practices and hospital pharmacy protocols
- Maintain accurate documentation within Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems
- Support acute pain management strategies and emergency interventions in the NICU setting
- Stay current with advancements in pharmacotherapeutics, drug regulation, and hospital pharmacy practices
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree with completion of a postgraduate pharmacy residency or equivalent post-residency experience
- Minimum of three years of clinical pharmacy experience with a focus on critical care, pediatrics, or neonatal pharmacology
- Demonstrated expertise in managing medications within Level I Trauma Centers or Level II trauma center environments preferred
- Experience working in hospital medicine settings with exposure to PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) environments
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to neonates
- Proficiency with Pharmacy Information Systems (PIS) and EMR/EHR platforms
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical regulatory compliance standards and drug regulation policies
- Hands-on experience with IV compounding, aseptic techniques, and medication administration in acute care settings
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with a compassionate approach to patient service
- Knowledge of managed care principles and hospital pharmacy operations
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments such as emergency rooms or ICU units
- Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration and staff education
